Ruffles and Bows

WARNING!  This post is about June's birth, which was not all puppies and rainbows.... you might want to skip it.  But I want to write it down so I can remember it.  I enjoy reading Coop's every now and then. :)

We thought we would have more time.  More time to pack and plan.  More time with Cooper.  We didn't anticipate rushing him off to the neighbor's house and not seeing him again until he was a big brother.  June had other ideas.

Saturday morning was just a regular Saturday.  I felt a little antsy about how messy the house was and spent some time cleaning.  I also ran to Target and Kroger.  Ben was grouting the shower.  It was looking great!  After lunch, I took an awesome nap while J worked outside.  I woke up, ate some ice cream, and watching the Masters with J.  We discussed how he should really pack a bag for the hospital..... We got Coop up and had just started playing when I went to the restroom.  I started bleeding pretty badly.  I didn't know what it meant, but knew we had to get to the hospital soon.  I yelled at J, he got Coop ready (he had been in his jammies... and J could only talk him into another pair of jammies.. haha).  I called the neighbor in the cove since she knew she was on call.  I saw her in the yard, but I guess she didn't have her phone.  I called the next door neighbors, and he ran over to get Coop since the others were in town.  Cooper was excited to go play with Rachel and Timothy.  I felt so rushed, but kissed him bye, grabbed my not-completely-packed hospital bag, and we hurried to the hospital.

Since it was Saturday, it was pretty slow.  J dropped me off, and I went to admissions where they called L&D and told them to come get me STAT.  I wasn't feeling the baby move as much, which worried me a lot.  After about 10 minutes, no one had come to get me, so the admissions lady walked me up to triage (about 4:30).  From what we could tell, I was the only one there, and no one was in a hurry.  I just needed to know that the baby was okay!  They hooked me up to the monitors, and we could immediately hear baby's heartbeat.  So. Much. Relief.  I guess the nurses and on call doctor thought I was exaggerating how much I was bleeding because they brushed it off as irritable uterus.  The doctor from my clinic wanted them to watch me for an hour, then send me home.  I hadn't made any progress since my 33 week check, but I was having regular contractions every 7-10 minutes.

15 minutes before they are about to send me home, I started bleeding badly again.  NOW the nurses and doctor understood why I was panicked.  I had made a little progress at this point, but they weren't sure I was in labor.  They were going to admit me and watch me overnight since I was bleeding.  The doctor from my clinic came to check me around 9:30.  The contractions had been coming more often and were more intense.  I assumed I was in labor, and the doctor confirmed it.

I was doing really well breathing through the contractions, but I was still bleeding a good bit.  It made me light headed, so I couldn't really stand up to get through the contractions.  Thinking it was going to be a long night and that I needed rest, I decided to get an epidural.  I got the epidural around 12:15 am.  J got back to the room around 12:25.  The epidural was awesome... no pain!  But the baby's heart rate would drop with each contraction.  My midwife was here by that point and decided to break my water to make sure there was no meconium in it (dangerous for baby).  There wasn't.  She put a monitor (I forgot what it was called) onto baby's head to monitor his/her heart rate better.  So crazy!  About 12:55, I was feeling a little pressure, so I asked the nurse to check me.  She only had to look to see that baby was coming!  After getting my midwife and 3 pushes later, we had a baby GIRL!  (1:04 am) J got to look and tell me.  We were elated!  J wanted a girl so bad and I just knew it was a girl.  June.  June was here!

Turns out, it was a good thing she decided to go ahead and come... and quickly.  She had a knot in her cord and it was wrapped around her neck, which is why her heart rate dropped during contractions.  Even though the labor was nothing like I wanted (no IV, no monitors, no interventions), if it wasn't for all those things, June might not be here and be healthy.  I immediately got to hold her (for 2 hours!), and J got to cut her cord.

After our recovery time, they had to take June for observation since she was early.  They took me to my recovery room, where I got no sleep.  But. Baby girl was here.  Healthy.  And as long as nothing changed (it didn't), we would get to take her home in just over 48 hours.

Sprinkle!

I didn't think I would have a shower for my second, but Susan offered to throw me one.  I'm so glad I let her.  The food was SO SO good and I got to spend time with my favorite people celebrating our little one.  Almost everyone was able to make it, which made it that much more fun. :)
