Tuesday, we left for the airport at 3:30 in a taxi. Our flight was delayed 45 minutes, but it wasn't too bad of a wait. We made it to Denver, then flew to Bozeman landing around 12:30 MDT. It was a late night for the kids, but they did great. They did sleep a little on the flight from Denver to Bozeman. We got our rental car and our bags, then headed to the Super8 to crash for the night.
Too early Wednesday morning, the kids were up (6:30 am MDT) and ready for breakfast. After breakfast, we checked out. J and I got coffee, then we found a park to play at. We hit up a local grocery store, then Costco. Finally, we were on our way to our Airbnb. We rested for a bit, then drove down to the river to find a geocache. Instead, we were swarmed by mosquitos and aborted the mission. A local grocery story stop helped fill in Costco gaps, then we went to bed early.
Thursday- it was supposed to be sunny. That's not what happened. We headed to Big Sky to do some hiking. It was 55 and rainy the entire time. At the last second, I decided to throw our rain jackets in the car. So glad!! But we also realized John didn't even pack one. Oops. The trail was covered in stick-to-your-shoe mud. There was a creek to cross with no bridge. June cried almost the entire time. I slipped in the mud and fell hard. It was not the most fun introduction to Montana, but we persevered. We abandoned our second hike, ate a picnic in the car, then headed home to shower and dry off. We did try some Flathead cherries, which we were all surprised we liked!
Friday we drove to Helena to go sapphire mining! It was a cool morning, but it was fun! We found several sapphires to take home. For lunch, we went to Steve's Cafe, which was amazing. Cooper got everything huckleberry. We drove around, then went to a carousel and to get ice cream. Afterwards, we went to (mostly) climb Mount Helena. The uphill part was challenging. It was a smokey day, so the views weren't the best, but the kids still enjoyed it. To finish up our Helena day, we went to Winco for groceries.
Saturday was supposed to be rainy. I had a small list of indoor things to do. Turns out it didn't rain that much during the day, but we did need a slower day after our past few busy days. We went to Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park to tour the cave. All the tickets online were sold out, but thankfully they sell some walk up tickets. The cave was pretty neat! It was a long hike up to the top of the entrance, but that meant mostly downhill inside- even a slide! Our guide told lots of corny jokes, which Cooper LOVED. We found a picnic spot by a creek and had lunch. Then we headed back to the Airbnb for rest and Mario. We finished up the day with supper (Costco Alfredo FTW) on the deck.
The pictures aren't in order, and I'm not taking the time to fix that. Sorry not sorry.
